Our Commitment – Dakota/Scott/Carver County Community Action Program Food Shelf
I’m one of the hardest working people I know. My work ethic is beyond that which most can imagine. I’ve always been this way and yet, due to a unique set of circumstances, there was a time in my life where I needed to use a food shelf. I am so grateful that the Dakota County CAP Agency was there for me during that time so that I could put food on the table that month for my children. I was embarrassed, I was scared, I was alone and the CAP Agency was there.
Every month, our local CAP Agency (Community Action Program) food shelf goes through 70,000 pounds of food serving Dakota County, Scott County and Carver County. Several years ago, as a team, we decided that we wanted to commit to making a difference with our annual Client Festival. We wanted to give back to our community. Due to my prior experience with the agency in Dakota County and my business experience working with the Agency in its quest toward ending homelessness, we decided to support the Dakota/Scott/Carver County CAP Agency food shelf and thrift store by collecting non-perishable food items and gently used winter clothing. We’ve held raffles each of the past 3 years at our Fall Festivals and will do so again this year.
However, this year will be different. We’ve decided that we need to step-up our efforts to support those in our own backyard who needed our help. These difficult economic times and tragedies world-wide have caused a greater need in our local agencies due to decreased giving and increased need.
We were told that 12,000 pounds of food or 1,000 pounds per month would be a lofty goal. With your help, we’re praying we will be able to CRUSH that goal over the next 12 months. We are striving to collect 15,000 pounds of non-perishable food during our 4 focused events and our regular monthly seminar offerings. Starting today, March 11,2010, The MN Home Loan Partners of Cornerstone Mortgage Company will become a drop-off site for non-perishable food items between the hours of 8:30A-5:00P Monday-Friday. We will continue to offer educational seminars to the general public free of charge, but might we suggest that you contribute by helping us support our local Dakota County CAP Agency, by you bringing with a non-perishable food item the next time you come to our office or to one of our events?
